The Rovinj town museum
Housed in a Baroque building in the town centre has an exhibition of modern art and a fine permanent collection including:
a
collection of old masters which includes works of art and polychromatic
sculptures from the fifteenth to the nineteenth centuries;
archeological
artifacts from prehistory to the medieval;
archaeological
collection: Vistrum: the finds of an antique tomb in
Veštar, Dvigrad and Limska gradina (ruins): medieval
finds of jewellery, ceramics and sculptures
the "Stancoviciana" library
which exhibits books and other rare printed matter from
the beginning of the sixteenth to the nineteenth century;
a
collection of modern Croatian sculptures and paintings
created in the last few decades. A large part consists
of the works of Vilko Seferov, who donated about a hundred
of his paintings to the town.
the
priceless ethnographic collection of folk costumes, tools
and other artifacts and memorabilia. (at ulica S. Chiurco

in Žminj,
in the town tower near the parish church, there is another
interesting ethnographic collection.
Every July the so called "Artists Colony of
Rovinj" and exchanges of exhibits with other museums and
galleries are organised in the exhibition hall of the Rovinj town museum.
This summer there will be a new exhibition every fifteen days.
Another feast for the eyes and soul is "Grisia",
the traditional open air art festival which is held every August in the street
of the same name.
In nearby Bale the "Castrum Vallis" exhibition
is organised every summer.
