"CAP AUREO" SPA Central part of west Istra – La Costa del sole – is well protected from cold east and north winds. From Novigrad to the north part of sea in Fažana canal, often there is no wind at all or just a little breeze from west or south-west, while in Triestan and Rijeka bay, around Pula and Kvarner, east-northeast wind – bura – blows. However, the west of coast of peninsula is not spared of hurricane wind. Bura never blows so strong here as it does on the other parts of our coast. During storms, boats find shelter and wait until it settles down. Hinterland is separating cold air from land and stopping opposite flows from the sea. Rovinj is situated on that protected belt. It was built on picturesque hill, on top of it is St. Euphemia church. Town spreads to the bays north and south from headland. Climate here is healthy and pleasing. Winter is never so cold
as in other towns at sea that are not so well protected from cold
wind. Likewise, summer is not too warm because of fresh breeze
from the sea that blows during the day and takes away dust, heat
and other summer misfortunes. Above all that, Rovinj coast is well inhabitated. Sea creatures
find plenty of food in lavishing sea flora. Noble Adriatic fish:
sea-basses, giltheads, sea-breams and many other are plentiful
here. Shoals of sardines and mackerels are being caught here in
great amounts; there is a great variety of shells and crustaceans. |
