SECOND EVENING OF THE INTERNATIONAL SETE SOIS SETE LUAS FESTIVAL - Music of Italian south in the town square of Rovinj
As part of the International Festival of Mediterranean Music Sete Sois Sete Luas, held in Rovinj for the second consecutive year, during the second festival evening, the audience could enjoy in performances by two famous Italian bands – the Piccolo Band Ikon and Jure Du Re' Project, who play the traditional sound of the south of their country and the Mediterranean.
During the performance, the seven member team of the Piccolo Band Ikon, supremely dominated by two exceptional female vocals singing in Sabir – the ancient language of the Mediterranean, enthralled the audience. Sabir is a language unifying idioms of French, Spanish and Arab origin, so the audience were able to occasionally hear traces of French chanson, Italian canzone, Portuguese fado, Spanish flamenco, and strong influences of Arabic oriental music. Sabir used to be spoken in ports and during commerce, and was known as the language of dialogue, conveying strong messages of peace and desire for mutual respect and exploration.
A performance by the Jure Du Re' Project band brought even greater dynamics and caused vivacity at the Rovinj quay and the central square. The band is composed of eight top musicians, who are classified by music critics as the most original in the rich and diverse scene of Italy. Their personality, virtual talent for everything and virtuosity are the principal trademarks of the band known for performances of Calabrian and Balkan ballads, which they play with musical variations and interpolations of jazz, reggae, and ska.
