The Town of Rovinj Tourist Board treated home folk and guests with a celebratory cake and 30-metre long apple strudel. The reason for the treat was a repeated record year, during which the Town of St Euphemia realised three million stays for the second time, thereby becoming once again the most visited tourist destination in the Adriatic.
Rovinj holds the Croatian record for most overnights stays
On October 7 2011 Rovinj saw its 3 millionth overnight stay
After 25 years (since 1986) Rovinj again reached a record-breaking 3 million overnight stays and, for the second consecutive year, regained leadership position in Croatia.
Compared to the same period last year and 347,716 more stays this is a 13 percent increase. Rovinj recorded a total of 434,167 arrivals, i.e. 56,096 or 16 percent more compared to 2010

During the night from the 12th to 13th of August, thanks to employees of the Town Tourist Board, Rovinj was the most romantic destination in the Adriatic. That is, for the fifth year in a row the tourist office organised St Lawrence Night, celebrating shooting stars that can be seen best on the sky precisely during this night. They also achieved this particular manifestation is the shiniest pearl of the tourist offer.
Young expatriates, members of this year’s Eco Heritage Task Force organised by the Croatian Heritage Foundation, stayed in Rovinj for the past three weeks, and were welcomed by the Town Tourist Board. And during the few weeks of their stay they were not idle, but – day in and out – actively participated in making the town a better place – they did everything from painting fences along the suburbia settlements, decorating the yard of the Hope Home targeted at children who had been hurt by mines that is located in the perimeter of the Rovinj hospital, to cleaning Monkodonja, the old, reconstructed Istrian ruins just in the vicinity of Rovinj.
Within the Rovinj Summer Festival, mezzo-soprano and Festival art director, Katja Markotić, held a concert dedicated to anniversaries of musical greats Franz Liszt (100 years since death) and Gustav Mahler (200 years since birth). Accompanied by the pianist Mia Elezović, the same concert was premiered this spring in the Mimara Museum.

Fishing evenings are proof that Rovinj folk are indeed aware of the beauty and attractiveness of the region they live in. During these manifestations, the gastronomic offer and the entertainment programme set along the town quay evoke memories of Rovinj from old postcards and of the time when fishermen were principal bread winners, with the grilled anchovy as the queen of Adriatic and Mediterranean cuisine. It is exactly the Fishing Tradition Evenings that, year in and out, stand out from other manifestations with their richness and diversity of programme – something one can but applaud to.

The third and last day of Popolana was all about the great and tasty culinary event. The seventh in a row half-marathon and the recreational street race attracted a record number of participants from Slovenia, Italy, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Austria, Hungary, Germany and Croatia.
The three-day sports manifestation of Popolana, held under the patronage of the Town, the Town Tourist Board and the hotel company Maistra and organised by the Association of Sports of the Town of Rovinj, this year attracted over 1,700 athletes and recreationists and some 300 volunteers.
